The Program Courses

The Maskawisîw Women in Business Start Up Program is delivered in bite-size pieces
and spread out over the course of 9 weeks, so it’s easy to absorb and implement. The
training includes in-person educational and inspirational workshops combined with one-
on-one private mentoring sessions for maximum impact and success.

WEEK ONE: Inspiration & Exploration
Join us on our first day to hear inspirational stories of Indigenous women who have accomplished business success. Learn their secrets as they share tips, tools, and encouragement to our program participants. We'll explore if entrepreneurship is for you, how it fits into your life, how to balance business-building time and family or community time and identify your strengths to move forward into building your own business.

 

WEEK TWO: Discovery
• One day workshop + personal mentoring appointment for each participant
• Identifying your most valuable customer and how to attract and communication with them
• Defining your unique value of your product or service
• Developing your one-page business plan

 

WEEK THREE: Market Research
• One day workshop personal mentoring appointment for each participant
• Market Research - proving your business idea will work
• Developing your business mission and vision

 

WEEK FOUR: Marketing & Sales Strategies
• How to market your business and communicate with your customer
• How to build your online presence
• Social Media Basics

 

WEEK FIVE: Legal Requirements for your business
• Choosing the right structure for your business
• How to register your business
• Permits and legal requirements
• Starting your business planning process

 

WEEK SIX: Business Management, Teams & Operations
• Understanding what it will take to start and operate your business
• Who do you need on your team? Identifying people you may need to hire either as employees or contractors
• Ways to Fund and Finance Your Business
• Ways to grow and scale your business
• Success Planning Basics

 

WEEK SEVEN & WEEK 8: Business Financials
• Identifying your start-up expenses
• Identifying your monthly operational expenses
• Developing your pricing strategy
• How to forecast your sales
• Learning what your profit and loss and balance sheet statements say about your business
• Personal mentoring sessions by appointment

 

WEEK NINE: Beyond The Plan
• How to implement your plan and build your business
• Things to consider before you have your grand opening
• Finding mentors to help you along the way
• Celebration and sharing your business story
